THE NATIONAL KIDNEY FEDERATION (NKF)
The National Kidney Federation, of which our chair, Kirit Modi, is the honorary president, was founded 1978, and is a national kidney charity in the United Kingdom It is the only one that is run by patients and their carers, for kidney patients.
The NKF acts as an umbrella organisation for Kidney Patient Associations across the UK and is a valuable source of information and support. LAKPA is active in its support of the NKF with LAKPA members being Trustees and members of the Executive Committee – our own vice chair, Tarsem Paul, is currently co-vice chair of the NKF.
The NKF’s newly revamped website carries a wealth of information on kidney disease and managing life as a patient, it is also the largest provider of kidney-related medical leaflets with a library of over 200 titles written by nephrologists in simple language for patients and carers.
If you have any question on kidney disease, and managing the issues it raises you will almost certainly find information on it on this site.
In addition, the NKF run the only free-to-call UK Helpline dedicated to kidney patients with two fully trained, personally experienced advisers providing a 5 day per week service to kidney patients, carers, healthcare professionals and renal units.
