HOW WE USE THE FUNDS

We are very grateful for all donations and bequests. As LAKPA is entirely run by volunteers, all funds are used to the benefit of kidney patients, their carers and renal staff across the Lister area. These are some of the ways that your donations have been used:

  • All the dialysis units are given the opportunity every year to plan a summer trip to the coast or other event that will be paid for by LAKPA. These are held on a Sunday when the dialysis units are closed, so everyone who wishes is free to take part. We hope that this bring some fun into the lives of patients, their carers and the renal staff that support them.
  • At Christmas we pay for Christmas decorations and grant money to all the units for a celebration that they choose – a meal, a party, small gifts etc.
  • We produce a Newsletter 3 times a year to keep you up to date with developments and report on activities.
  • We develop and maintain this website and post news on Facebook and Instagram.
  • We work with the renal support team in providing welfare grants to patients suffering hardship – this is particularly important in the light of the cost of living crisis, helping with household items, food vouchers and help with energy costs.

  • We have given seed funding for projects such as the peer support service and the benefits adviser, both of which have proved successful enough for inclusion in the Trust budget. We are currently funding the provision of two Complementary Energy Therapists and this is proving its worth with patients and staff.
  • We have provided funds for the purchase of equipment not available through the NHS – recently this has included: mobile scanners for easier needling, more effective non-disposable clips for HD patients, fistula bands, stress balls etc.
  • We are managing the spending on a recent large bequest by renewing some old and worn out furniture, carrying out some redecoration, providing a patient entry system, negotiating the provision of a vending machine and improving access for patients.
  • We have financed anniversary parties for units which provided some light relief to patients and staff alike.

These are just some examples of what we do. In addition we are occasionally given donations with a request that the money be used to support the staff and we are delighted when this happens as we owe a debt of gratitude to the renal clinical teams who constantly go over and above in their support to our patients.

Please think about making a donation – you can be assured that it will be used to improve the lives of our kidney patients.
