Kirit Modi MBE has been a kidney patient for over 25 years and has had two transplants, one from his wife and one from a deceased donor. In addition to LAKPA, Kirit is the honorary President of the NKF and NBTA, and a member of the JHOD Advisory Board. |

Tarsem Paul has been a kidney patient for 14 years and has received two kidney transplants, following a number of years dialysing at Bedford. He is vice chair of the NKF as well as chair of the Bedfordshire Hospitals Trust Organ Donation Committee and a member of Lister Organ Donation Committee. |

Ros Aird was a carer for her husband and trained for and supported his home haemo dialysis. She also cared for her brother who had PKD and was on Peritoneal dialysis for the last 5 years of his life. |

Tony Heath has been a kidney patient for many years as well as having a number of other health problems. He has received two kidney transplants, one in 2009 and a further one in 2018 with interim periods on dialysis. He represented the patient voice in planning the Chiltern Unit. |

Ali Lawrence was diagnosed with CKD in 1998 following a routine blood pressure test. After spending three years on dialysis and the deceased donor transplant list she received her life-changing donor kidney in 2023. |

Paul has been a renal patient for over 50 years – he first started dialysis at 15 and has also been transplanted. His current transplant was received in 1995 but is now only providing residual function and he has decided to move on to dialysis as a further transplant would be high risk. He has now trained to dialyse at home and, having joined LAKPA has taken on the role of home therapies liaiason. |

David Waller spent 22 years as carer for haemodialysis and transplanted patient and now acts as our charity liaison ambassador. |
Dialysis Units Liaison
LAKPA covers a wide geographical area and we have established a very important role for local patients to act as LAKPA liaison for each of the five dialysis units.

Maurice Sullivan received a shock diagnosis of CKD in 2018, managed initially through medication. Following further deterioration, he started PD which was successful for 12 months, but a catheter tube infection meant this was no longer possible and he now dialyses at Chiltern Kidney Centre twice a week. |

Terry Downing was diagnosed with CKD at the age of 80. He started on PD, but an infection required the catheter to be removed following which he has a neckline fitted allowing him to start Haemo dialysis. In 2022, he became the Harlow Unit Representative on the LAKPA committee. |

Karen Harding has been attending the Lister Unit for haemo dialysis for approximately 7 years after developing CKD following sepsis and multi organ shutdown. “Unfortunately I’m not suitable for transplant but I remain happy and live life to the full.” |

Farrell Anglin has been dialysing at St Albans three times a week since 2018; he also has to wear a device that monitors a heart problem. He has been the St Albans LAKPA representative for the last 2 years and very much enjoys his interaction with the patients there. |
Our relationships with staff across the renal services
LAKPA maintains excellent relations with staff across the renal services and values the support we receive from them. A number of senior clinical staff attend our committee meetings which are held every other month – these are:
