There were presentations by both Anita Day, the Chair of the E&N Herts Trust, and by Dr. Andrew Findlay, our Medical Director. Both presentations highlighted the many challenges facing the health service, but also brought some good news that the long awaited Home Therapies project can now go ahead, starting later this year.
Kirit Modi, LAKPA Chair presented a review of the past year and progress against the priorities we had set ourselves. He was happy to report good progress despite it being one of the most difficult years ever in working through closures and infrastructure issues. One piece of good news was that the year had seen a record amount in donations, which will be key to helping LAKPA continue its support for kidney patients.
As part of his presentation Dr. Findlay indicated that there is to be a debate in the World Health Organisation about adding renal to the cardio-vascular, cancer, chronic respiratory and diabetes as a non-communicable disease priority. If adopted this may have some direct and indirect obligations on the government and Andy encouraged as many people as possible to access the Kidney Care UK website where there is a petition to push that forward.
